Solidarity with Pittsburgh

We are shocked, saddened, and pained by the horrific attack on Shabbat morning in Pittsburgh.

Our hearts and our prayers are with the entire Pittsburgh community.

Our brother is currently studying in a Yeshiva in Pittsburgh, which makes this news seem to hit close to home; but in truth, no matter where in the world we are, an attack on one Jewish community is an attack on all Jewish communities.

We grieve with the families who have lost loved ones and pray for the recovery of those injured.

There are truly no words one can share at such a time that can bring true comfort. Yet, as we try to process this all, we try to understand what it is that we can do today and every day to counter this hate and destruction.

In 1956, when the Chabad community suffered a horrific terror attack at the Vocational school in Kfar Chabad, Israel, where 5 students and their teacher were murdered by a terrorist while reciting afternoon prayers, the entire community went into deep shock and mourning.

The Rebbe telegraphed the community: "To build will be their consolation." Counter terror with love, destruction with construction.

Let's come together and add a little light. Light has the power to chase away darkness.

Today, add an extra Mitzvah. Wrap the Tefillin, hang a Mezuzah (openly displaying Jewish pride), drop a coin in Tzedakah, or add in any other act of goodness & kindness.

A hater has hated because they are Jews. Let's stand together as prouder Jews, stronger Jews, united Jews.

May G-d give strength to the people of Pittsburgh and all around the world. May we merit to the time of true peace in the entire world, with the coming of Moshiach now!

We held a ‘Solidarity with Pittsburgh’ memorial ceremony Sunday night, with a large participation from the Springfield greater community. Here are some links to news articles that covered the story:
